Prosthesis Designs and Tuberosity Fixation Techniques in Reverse Total Shoulder Arthroplasty: Influence on Tuberosity Healing in Proximal Humerus Fractures

چکیده

Reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA) is increasingly used for the treatment of complex proximal humerus fractures and fracture sequelae. In 2021, half a dozen models stems are commercially available, reflecting its growing utility management. Prosthesis designs, bone grafting tuberosity fixation techniques have evolved to allow better more reliable tuberosities bony ingrowth. Patients with anatomical healing not only an increased range active anterior elevation external rotation, but also experience fewer complications longer prosthesis survival. This review provides overview recent evidence on basic fracture-specific RTSA design features as well that can influence healing.

Early Versus Late Reverse Shoulder Arthroplasty for Proximal Humerus Fractures: Does It Matter?

Background: This study compared the outcomes between patients with proximal humerus fractures (PHF) whounderwent acute reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RSA) to those who underwent an alternative initial treatmentbefore requiring (secondary) RSA.Methods: Patients who underwent RSA after suffering a PHF were identified. Two year clinical follow-up was requiredfor inclusion. Patients were divi...

Isolated fractures of the greater tuberosity of the proximal humerus

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The diagnosis and treatment of isolated greater tuberosity fractures of the proximal humerus is not clear-cut. We retrospectively assessed the clinical and radiographic outcome of isolated greater tuberosity fractures. PATIENTS AND METHODS 30 patients (mean age 58 (26-85) years, 19 women) with 30 closed isolated greater tuberosity fractures were reassessed after an aver...

Optimization of Tuberosity Healing in Prosthetic Reconstruction of Proximal Humerus Fractures

Achieving successful clinical outcomes after hemiarthroplasty for 4-part proximal humerus fractures remains a sobering challenge for even the experienced shoulder reconstruction sur‐ geon or traumatologist. Despite what appears to be secure tuberosity fixation at the time of wound closure, serial postoperative radiographs often reveal progressive displacement and/or resorption of the greater tu...

Hemiarthroplasty versus reverse total shoulder arthroplasty for acute proximal humerus fractures in elderly patients.

Proximal humerus fractures are the third most common fracture in elderly patients. Hemiarthroplasty has been the treatment of choice in patients with bone quality and fracture patterns not amenable to open reduction and internal fixation. Reverse total shoulder arthroplasty is a newer option that appears to be less dependent on tuberosity healing than hemiarthroplasty. The authors hypothesized ...
